Today we remember Alice Paul, a suffragist and women’s rights activist. She campaigned for the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which was ratified on this day in 1920. Paul also wrote the ERA - the Equal Rights Amendment. Though the 19th Amendment was a huge step forward, it wasn’t the end of the story—or the end of the fight for equality. Born in 1885, Alice attended suffrage meetings with her mother from a young age. She organized the National Women’s Party — and held protests at the White House.
