ESPN expanded deals with the NFL and has a new partnership with WWE, which will provide the network with more inventory and offerings, with the hopes it will bolster the company in a landscape that is divided among cable, satellite and streaming. According to Nielsen, streaming usage surpassed broadcast and cable combined in U.S.

With the deal between the NFL and ESPN now done (sort of), the league's owners will be discussing it. Via Mark Maske of the Washington Post, the owners will conduct a virtual meeting on August 26 regarding the deal that will transfer various NFL Media properties to ESPN in exchange for a 10-percent stake in ESPN.

The NFL also approved a small change to the onside kick rule. Under the old rule, a team could only attempt an onside kick in the fourth quarter and they had to be trailing. Under the new rule, onside kicks are now permitted at ANY point in the game, but the team attempting the kick still has to be trailing.

After months of patiently waiting, NFL fans will be treated to a full slate of preseason games over the next four days. Technically speaking, the NFL preseason kicked off with the Hall of Fame Game last Thursday.
