Four years after being officially recognized as a national holiday, Juneteenth will be celebrated throughout City with an expansive lineup of events, many of them free.

USPS will not be open for mail on Juneteenth, since it's a federal holiday. Post offices will be closed, and there will not be any mail delivery. FedEx and UPS, however, will be open as usual. The Federal Reserve System recognizes Juneteenth as a holiday, so most major banks are closed.

Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and informed the last enslaved Black Americans that they were freed.
